Work Samples - GIS Infrastructure Solvency Analysis

Introduction

One of the topics that interests me in the urban planning domain is the financial sustainability of our built environments. That is, evaluating the extent to which the developments (residences and businesses) served by a collection of infrastructure are capable of paying for that infrastructure in perpetuity.

I performed this analysis for the townships of Fairfield County, Ohio using ArcGIS and publicly available spatial data from the county auditor. To keep the analysis simple, I chose to evaluate the solvency of the county's road infrastructure using following heuristics:

  1. Annual maintenance cost per $100K of property value
  2. Percentage of assessed taxes consumed by annual road maintenance
